Anthony Hamilton zingt de lof van zwarte vrouwen in ‘QUEEN’

In a 1962 speech, Malcolm X once said, “The most disrespected person in America, is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America, is the Black woman.” Sadly, over 60 years later, although many strides have been made, Brother Malcolm’s words still ring true and our struggle continues. Anthony Hamilton is among those looking to change the narrative, however. The singer-songwriter returns to sing the praises of Black women on his feel-good anthem “QUEEN.”

A love letter at its core, Hamilton comes straight from the heart on “QUEEN” to celebrate his beloved soul sisters. Set to a soulful steppers’ groove, Anthony’s lyrics uplift, encourage and inspire. “Incredible / The way you put in work and you handle it / Incredible / Girl, when you come through they know what it is / Incredible / Girl, you the truth they can’t handle you / Incredible / Yeah, yeah, yeah,” he sings on the first verse, which flows into the melodic, extremely catchy chorus.

“You’re my queen, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You’re my world when the world won’t do / And the world won’t spin without you / You’re my queen, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,” Anthony croons as we swoon. Later in the song he even interpolates a little of Labelle’s “Lady Marmalade” into “QUEEN” to add more razzle dazzle.

“QUEEN” is Hamilton’s first solo release since 2021 and his Love Is The New Black album cycle. Although he has collaborated with numerous artists in the past three years – such as Louis York, Killer Mike, Tobe Nwigwe and Omari Hardwick, to name a few – on this track, he reunites with one of his most significant collaborators, Jermaine Dupri.

AHam and JD have made music and magic together for over 20 years, and they’re in a zone here. They worked with quite a creative team to bring the song to life, including Manuel Seal on co-production and co-writers ED D KaneEric BellingerBrandon Lloyd Hesson and Vurdell “VScript” Muller.

Inspired by the Black women in his life past and present and coinciding with Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic run to become the first Black woman elected President of the United States, Anthony Hamilton’s “QUEEN” is timeless and timely.
